Hospital expands virtual care for patients

Jeddah’s King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) is launching new virtual and alternative care options to streamline patient access. The initiative aims to offer more convenient ways to receive specialized treatment while minimizing nonessential hospital trips.
In 2025, virtual clinic visits at KFSH Jeddah reached 97,647, a 12.1% increase from the previous year. Outpatient visits across core specialized services rose by 15.5% to 132,368, reflecting broader access to both virtual and in-person care.
The expansion is part of a wider approach to making the patient journey easier. Referral decision time was reduced to 21 hours in 2025, helping patients receive earlier clarity on their care. Digital channels and the Contact Center were also enhanced to improve access to information and services.
Care is moving beyond the hospital itself, with 14,924 home healthcare visits, up 11.8%, enabling selected services to be delivered at home when clinically appropriate. KFSH Jeddah introduced therapeutic plasma exchange in outpatient clinics, allowing eligible patients to receive treatment without inpatient admission.

Dr. Alfadel Alshaibani, Lymphoma and Myeloma Consultant at KFSH, said: “These pathways provide patients with different points of access to specialized care rather than relying on a single hospital-based model. Patient feedback and satisfaction data are used to identify areas for improvement and guide service development.”
KFSH’s approach is part of its broader patient-centered strategy, using virtual care, home healthcare, outpatient treatment, and digital services to bring specialized care closer to patients. They have been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 12th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers for 2026. It is clear that the hospital’s efforts are focused on providing patients with more options for accessing care.
The hospital’s patient-centered strategy is designed to improve the overall patient experience. By providing more options for care, KFSH is helping to reduce the need for hospital visits and make care more accessible. The hospital’s ranking as one of the top academic medical centers in the world is a sign of its commitment to providing high-quality care.
